Bio - Leslie Wyber
Leslie Wyber is a performer, artistic director, and educator. As co-founder and artistic director of the Guelph School of Music , her interest in the cognitive and social value of broadly integrated music education and her joy in teaching young children has led her to innovative program development. Dr. Wyber's unique teaching method encourages an active exploration of sound in an atmosphere of acceptance where creativity flourishes.
With Cameron McKittrick and Richard Windeyer, she is a member of Finger, a trio of musicians mixing fresh compositional approaches, collaborative improvisation and new performance technologies with re-interpretations of exising works. She is also co-artistic director of Sundays at the Centre, a series of concerts at the Guelph Youth Music Centre free to children under 14 representing creative, explorative, and cross-cultural music-making.
Leslie holds a Doctor of Musical Arts in piano performance from the University of British Columbia. She is also a graduate of the University of Victoria (Victoria Medal), and has studied at the Hochschule der Kunste, Berlin, Germany (Rotary Graduate Fellowship). She has been a member of the piano faculty at Wilfrid Laurier University since 1997.
