Educational Play
What is Educational Play?
Sonic Playground Educational Programs introduce playful, open-ended group activities in which children explore their sonic environment, improvise and compose as musicians.
To develop effective listening and communication skills for creative music-making, children imitate environmental sounds, combining them to build soundscapes to accompany stories and poems.
Children develop musical ideas using their voices, body percussion and with Sonic Playground instuments. Group improvisation games introduce formal musical concepts which children can incorporate into their compositions. Children compose individually, in small groups and their ideas are also incorporated in large group creations.
Children experiment with graphic notational concepts as a way to share their compositional ideas.
In the Sonic Playground everyone can contribute and everyone has a musical voice.
